This blog post is all about how to throw a DIY Luxury Picnic.
Luxury picnics have been all the rage recently, so I decided to try my hand at putting one together for my closest friends. It’s a fun and creative way to get together with your girls, celebrate a birthday, or simply for some weekend fun.
Hosting friends and sharing wine is one of my passions, so I was thrilled to partner with Clink Different and pour wines from Bordeaux and Germany at my luxury picnic.
Here’s how I put together a luxury picnic:

Luxury Picnic Theme
Before I started shopping for the picnic, I went to Pinterest to get some inspiration. After looking at countless beautiful setups, I decided to go with a minimalist, bohemian theme for my DIY Luxury Picnic theme. There are endless themes you could go for. Honorable mentions go to Moroccan, high tea, and backyard BBQ themes.
I looked high and low for affordable table options but unfortunately came up short. I decided to put on my woodworking hat and made my own outdoor picnic table. I bought a pre-cut 1/2 in. x 2 ft. x 4 ft. sheet of wood from Home Depot and ordered 16 in. black hairpin legs from Amazon. (Update: I upgraded the table to have foldable hairpin legs which made it much easier to store the table). Using a hand drill, I screwed in the four legs. I was impressed with how the table looked at this point but decided to use a hand sander to refine it. DIY Luxury Picnic is what we’re going for.
Luxury Picnic Decor (on a budget)
Now that the table was ready, I set out to find the perfect decorations. This is your opportunity to create luxury picnic vibes.
I found these adorable plastic plates and chargers from Amazon. In Marshalls, I scored a macrame table runner that was exactly on theme, a wood charcuterie board, and faux flowers to use as centerpieces. You can find some great items on Amazon as well. Finally, I picked up two rugs and pillows from 5 Below.
Luxury Picnic Food
A picnic is not a picnic without food, right? Charcuterie boards are great for picnics with several people because there is sure to be something for everyone. On the charcuterie board, I included an assortment of grapes, Manchego and Brie cheeses, salami, prosciutto, and pita crackers.
The sky is the limit when it comes to food. You could buy catered Chipotle, make or order sandwiches or keep it simple with pizza.
Luxury Picnic Wines
To make the setup complete, you must have wine! Not just any wine, though. My goal when sharing wines with friends is to introduce them to something new and make them say, “Wow!” I selected a white Bordeaux and a red blend from Germany.
2020 Chateau de Parenchere Bordeaux
When you think of Bordeaux, the first thing that comes to mind is probably red wine, since eighty-nine percent of the vineyard area in Bordeaux is dedicated to red wines. Instead of going with the obvious choice for the picnic, I brought Bordeaux Blanc.
The 2020 Chateau de Parenchere is made up of three major Bordeaux white varieties: 70% Sauvignon, 20% Sémillon, and 10% Muscadelle. This blend contributes directly to the balance of this wine. Sauvignon brings pronounced aromatics, freshness, and acidity, Sémillon gives the wine body, and Muscadelle brings aromas of white flowers. Overall, the Bordeaux Blanc is ripe with citrus fruits and floral. It’s a great wine to start with at a summer picnic.
2020 Roterfaden + Rosswag Vineyard Project “Terraces” Red, Germany
The Terraces Red is an interesting blend of 55% Lemberger, 35% Trollinger, 10% Regent, and 10% Schwarzriesling (Pinot Meunier). The grapes are from Schwaben – an area within Bavaria that’s nestled between the wine regions of Baden and Württemberg. The wine is unoaked and bursting with juicy red fruits, spice, and pepper. The mouth-watering acidity and the balanced structure are perfect with charcuterie board options.
In addition to the wine being delicious and fun, it is cool to tell the story of the producers. Terraces Red is made by a wife and husband duo, Olympia Samara and Johannes Hoffmann, who have committed themselves to a philosophy of biodynamic farming, reduced yields, native yeasts, old oak, no filtering, and minimal sulfur.
Conclusion
This blog post is all about how to throw a DIY Luxury Picnic.
Check out the IG Reel to see the beautiful DIY luxury picnic setup. I was very impressed with how it turned out and how easy it was to see my vision come to fruition. I hope to host friends over a least a few more times before the summer ends!
